Welcome Baby Chick...
Our chicks were scheduled to hatch on Wednesday but this little one came a day early. The children watched all day as the little chick started to work his way out of the egg. They were so excited when they could see his beak poke out of the shell. Or course, the chick came out of the egg 15 minutes after they went home. We should be able to watch the others hatch on Wednesday!! Their other home is all ready...

Special Recognition for our Classroom Monday, May 7th, 2012
Our class has been chosen by Mr. Dye, our 4th grade teacher to be recognized at the Board of Education Meeting on May 7th at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Dye spoke to the Board of Education because he feels that the students in our classroom are The Bucket Fillers of Red Cedar Elementary School. Our class has been involved in recycling for the whole school for Terracycle. (Mr. Dye and I have something fun planned with the Terracycle theme). We are also responsible for taking out the Sandbox Toys every day at morning recess and cleaning up and bringing them in every day after afternoon recess. (This is a part of our classroom jobs but everyone helps to pick up sandbox toys). As part of our daily calendar, we recognize every student and staff person on their birthday by writing their name on a personalized Hershey Candy Bar and delivering it to them on their birthday. (We have a Birthday Board by the Music Room where candles are displayed for all of the birthdays that month).
If you are able to bring your child to the Board Office on Timberlane for the 7:00 p.m. Board Meeting, each child will receive a special award for their work. This will take place at the beginning of the meeting. This is a very special recognition for the children! If you have questions, please contact me at school.
We have a new favorite book! It is called, Waking Up Is Hard To Do. It is performed by Neil Sedaka. For those of you who think this tune sounds familiar, you may remember Neil Sedaka's song, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do. The book has outstanding illustrations by, Daniel Miyares. The children love to sing it. I told them I would share it with you and that if they have a hard time waking up in the morning, maybe you could play this song. If you are interested in purchasing it, I found that Amazon had the most reasonable price. Click here to go to the Amazon page.

We have been invited to join Ms. Teszlewicz's First Grade Class to the Hello Hospital Visit at St. Lawrence Hospital. We will leave school by East Lansing Transportation at 9:10 a.m. We will return at 11:30 a.m. This trip provides children with a fun way to be introduced to the hospital. They get to pretend to be the patient in a fun, non-threatening manner. It is a wonderful trip one that is a favorite for everyone!
